When a wiry haired little Shih-zu/Terrier mix came for his interview day, we were instantly in love with his curious personality and flappy little ears, when he came to board for a week, we were ecstatic! Gizmo was full of life and was quite the little adventurer, little did we know that his adventure had just begun.
Upon pick up from his boarding visit, we learned that Gizmo was on his way to be surrendered to a shelter. His owner relocated to an assisted living facility that didn’t allow pets and the family was unable to keep him. The facility the family planned on taking him to is known to be constantly over-full and doesn’t have a no kill philosophy.
Fearful for the fate of this little one year old boy, Tony arranged for Gizmo to stay at Camp until he could be fostered or placed into a forever home. Tony contacted our friends at the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society and Gizmo never checked out from his original boarding stay.
We quickly learned that no one mentioned to Gizmo that he was a little dog. The teacup yard couldn’t hold his giant personality and he moved into the small play yard. Gizmo made fast friends with our daycare members, including his best friend Artie, a Bernese Mountain Dog mix.
Match made in heaven
Gizmo lived at Camp for about a month and a half before finding the perfect family, complete with two big dogs of his very own. Gizmo is now living happily up north with a lot of land to explore with his two brothers; Bullwinkle (an 11 year old Landseer Newfoundland) and Buddy (an 11 year old Chocolate Lab). Gizmo is fitting right in with his big brothers (who are also rescue dogs) and is expanding his adventures to boating (he has his very own lifejacket) and exploring in the woods.
We’re happy to report that Gizmo is still a Camper and always has lots of kisses to give and new stories to share with all of his Camp friends. We love a “Happy Tail”!
