Top 5 Dog Breeds in America for 2012

The list is finally here! The top 5 dog breeds in America have been announced.

It looks like the Labrador Retriever is once again America’s most popular dog, for the 22nd year in a row. What is it about these dogs that makes them so lovable? Well, for starters they are gentle, family dogs. They have great personalities and are diligent hunting partners. Labs are excellent leader dogs for the blind. They also aim to please their master which makes them valuable members of law enforcement narcotics teams.

Next in the ranking (and voted most popular in Detroit) is the German Shepherd. Recognized as the world’s leading police, guard and military dog, this breed is also a loving family companion.

Third place goes to the happy and lovable Golden Retriever. These beautiful golden pups can adapt to any household but also require daily exercise and someone to play with.

If you are looking for a small dog, you might want to check out the Beagle Breed (voted 4th in America). These dogs are known to be excellent hunters, but also carry with them a happy-go-lucky personality. They are sure to cheer you up after a long day.

Voted 5th in the AKC rankings is the short and stout Bulldog. He is strong in stature and in personality. Bulldogs are excellent family pets because they get along very well with children. They require minimal exercise, so they may be right for you if you live a busy life style.

At Camp Bow Wow we love all breeds and believe there is a dog for everyone. So whichever pup you choose, make sure that you do your research and consider your lifestyle, family size and time commitment before making a decision.
